Jean-Rene Goetze

Cape Elizabeth, Maine

Jean-Rene Goetze is a newcomer to the Maine Art scene. He had his first exhibit at the Thomas Memorial Library in Cape Elizabeth in 2004 and participated in art shows in Bar Harbor (juried) and South Portland. His work also has been shown in Blue Hill Bay Gallery .

Jean-René Goetze spends half the year in Cape Elizabeth - where he and his wife have a home - and the rest of the time in Europe. He has lived on three continents and has been attracted to Plastic Arts from an early age. His creative interests led him to ponder a career in Architecture but he instead became a senior petroleum executive.

Although he has had no formal training in painting, he has taught himself by studying techniques in books and sharpening his vision by scrutinizing the masters, old and new, in Western European and Stateside museums.

Living in two artist’s paradises gives his inspiration no limit except time and skill . He prefers to paint in the studio using mostly photographs for reference and relying on careful composition. Media used are acrylic on cold pressed paper and egg tempera on panel. His work can be described as meticulous, tight, controlled and detailed ; a realism which still leaves the door open to an intuitive approach.
